The 12 Tables

The 12 Tables were created when the plebeians started to resent the patricians power. Finally, the patricians passed a written constitution, called the 12 Tables around 450 B.C. The 12 Tables established basic rights for and duties of the citizens of the Roman Republic.

Written-

On the 12 Tables, it states the basic rights for everyone (except girls). It established the basic rights and duties of Roman citizens.

Creator-

The 12 Tables were created by the patricians. They created them because the plebeians were fed up with the patricians power. This was the solution to the growing resentment towards the patricians power.

Pros & Cons-

Pros-

  • It mean't the patricians did't have way to much power.

  • It established some sort of order.

Cons-

  • Not everybody applied.

  • Women, slaves, and children were not considered citizens.

Who?-

The 12 tables applied to everyone, who was a citizen. Women were not considered citizens. Women were considered property and did not apply to the laws.
